I used to receive 3G whilst making a call on my iPhone 4S, yesterday I upgraded to a 4G iPhone 5S and now I don't get that anymore. Can anyone help as to why? O2 told me I would never get it, but I always used to. Thanks.
I suspect a fault with your handset.
I have no problem getting 3G whilst in a call unless it's another "special" Apple feature

Check the coverage map for your area:

and the service status:

O2 browses for the strongest signal and since you have a 4G tariff
You can't make calls over 4G yet.

From a recent 4G Online Interview.
"Hi Aldaweb,
Thanks for your question.
In terms of coverage we are continuing to improve coverage in launched cities as we continue to rollout in launch areas.
Also in response to your question on VoLTE, the TEF group are trialling this technolog in Germany at the moment, but we have no current plans in the UK. Question back, do you think customers are interested in this technology?"

I've just bought a 5s on a 4G tariff. I don't have 4G coverage at home - only at work.
When I am at home with mobile data 4G enabled, I don't get a 4G indicator (top left of the display next to the signal strength indicator). I don't get a 3G indicator either. However, I have another phone (a 4s) and it is showing a 3G indicator.
1. If I have 4G enabled in the cellular settings, should the 5s fall back to the 3G network when 4G is enabled?
2. Should I disable the 4G option in cellular settings when in a non-4G area? This seems to make data access quicker (but there is no idication if I am on 3G or Edge).
