I have a SIM only contract, but because my Samsung S7 is unsupported I need to get a new phone. I can get a good deal via Samsung/O2 but the online form on the Samsung website says I can't transfer my old number. Is this right?

Samsung are no longer issuing security updates for my phone = unsupported. I wish to get a new phone, with a new contract, but it's cheaper through Samsung than upgrading with O2, but I'd like to keep my existing number

Once you get your new contract through Samsung you'll need your pac from o2 to transfer to the network they use if not o2.
If it is o2, just call customer service to migrate your number to the new contract.
