New O2 Contract - would like to keep number and transfer

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello - I have just received a new Pay Monthly phone.

I would like to transfer my existing mobile number from Three which I understand I can do by requesting a PAC number - that's fine.

However, the telephone number that came with my new copntract is rather memorable and i would like to keep this as well for a spare mobile that I use from time to time.

How can I do this?  Thank you for your help.

If you have one contract you can only have one number. You'll have to make a choice.

You coud certainly bring your old number and keep it as a spare with your old phone on Pay and Go.

Make sure you make a call with it every 6 monthe to keep it active.

Thanks - so to make it clear for me (I'm sure this is really simple but I can't seem to quite get it!):

1.  Current Three no. ports to new O2 mobile;

2.  I can utilise the number that came with the O2 phone on another phone (P&G)

How do I get a SIM with that number for the P&G?

Thanks once again

That's correct, they will send you out a sim or you can pick one up in an O2 shop, where they will do the number transfer for you.

Hello - apparently, it's not so easy.  Having just spoken to Customer Services, I learn:

Porting from Three to new O2 phone is OK but this then releases the number that came with the phone and that number is added to a reallocation pool and would not be available to me.

Should I port the O2 number to another phone this would close down my account and I would have early termination charges.

It seems like there is no way I can keep the new number with the Three number moving to this new phone.

Not quite what I suggested.

Accept the new number for your new contract.

Port your old number to an O2 Pay and Go sim card for your old phone.

At least you then get to keep both numbers.

I think that what perksie is advising is the only way for you to keep both numbers. You could go into an O2 store with your Three PAC, ask for an O2 PAYG sim, and they could swap your Three number to the PAYG sim right there. It also leaves your new O2 contract with your memorable number untouched, with no chance of it getting messed up.
