I currently have two SIM cards on my contract, one is coming to the end of its 2 year deal, the second is one I got through a Virgin Media Volt package a few months ago.
I was told at the time I would be able to close the older contract and transfer the older SIM cards' number to the new SIM card when the contract was up.
I tried yesterday on chat and got told it is not possible because I own both numbers, surely this cannot be correct? I do not want to lose my number as I have had it for a longtime.
Can anyone help?

Absolute bull by customer services
You should be able to MIGRATE the old number across
Guide: Migration & porting into O2
Use the UK based Social Media team
Message them on Social Media. Facebook (https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) ,
X Twitter (https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram (https://o2uk.co/O2CIG)

Thank you Enlli, don't really use social media, so will have to create an account. Bit annoying that I have to go down that route. Hopefully I will get it sorted, thank you again!

As @Enlli said, the social media team are UK based. They have a far better knowledge base and success rate.
Like you I didn't follow social media for a long time (apart from Facebook)
However, I now have a Twitter (X) and Instagram account. It's much better dealing with O2 staff who know what they are doing. 😉

Thank you to the both of you, got to get a PAYG card on a random network, cancel my contract and transfer the number to the PAYG card, then cancel that and transfer that number to my newer contract.
Can i just say how pathetic that is! Why do they make it so complicated!!!

Agreed. That method is something the regulars on here have suggested for far too many years.
Glad it is at least sorted.

Well, finally got on the support chat to cancel the number I wanted to transfer and ask for a PAC code, I mentioned what I was doing and the support worker mentioned they have a team to do this, transferred me to it and in less than 20 hours it has all been sorted without having to use a PAC code or PAYG sim. I don't think O2 know what is possible and what isn't.

Glad it's sorted.
Yes, it should be a simple task and customer service should know what to do.
They say they are spending 1 million a day improving CS. .... It's getting worse
