Hi,
I have moved to a new location few weeks back near to canada water station in London and is a prime location. Eventhough, its close to station and has ok reception outside (3 of 5 bars outside), there is absolute ZERO network indoors and am not able to make or receive calls at home.
I already called O2 customer care a number of times but to no resolve. I even manage to find customer care person online and she assured me that it will be resolved in 24 hours without explaining the cause if issue or intended resolution... but nothing happened event after 3 days.
I have Nokia C7 (3G) mobile and tried number of suggestions from online community:
1) Changed my mobile setting to 2G mode
2) Tried Sim on another mobile
3) Took out the battery for 5 mins and tried again
NONE of the above worked with o2, and the interesting bit is I can get excellent coverage with T-Mobile.
I am sure its a network issue.
If O2 cant resolve this issue, I like to cancel the contract without any premature penalty as its O2 who is at fault.
Please let me know if you can give me any advise.
Regards,
Ajit

Hi Ajit
Sorry to hear that your new location does not offer you any network service indoors.
You have done the right thing by doing the checks you have mentioned by changing the setting to 2g, swapping the sim to different phone and also rebooting your phone, to see whether makes any difference as sometimes these checks establish whether it is a fault with the sim or phone.
In your case it does appear to be a problem in the network in your new location, which as Jonesy has pointed out is something which O2 would have been unable to advise you on at the point of sale when you agreed the contract with us as both you and O2 at that time were unaware that you would be moving to your new location.
However, there is some light at the end of the tunnel, which may offer you a better alternative to paying a cancellation fee which I fear may be the only resolution O2 will be able to offer you in these circumstances if you are still in contract.
O2 are about to launch (by the end of this month) a new app called Tu GO. This app is free to download on iPhone and Android. I'm not sure when this will be available on Ovi Store for Nokias.... but the good thing about is for people like yourself who have signal outdoors but in their home it isn't that great, or non existent, causing problems making and receiving calls.
The app uses wifi (which most people have at home through their broadband supplier) and allows the user to make calls and texts to other mobile users either through their phone or even an iPad when at home via the wifi connection (similar to the way Skype/Viber works) however the good thing about it is that the person you are calling does not have to have the app installed and when you call them through the app, it will show as you who is calling them normally, so it does not require the person you are calling to have a smartphone.
It works the same way to receive calls so, if someone is calling you while you are at home - normally it will just go straight to voicemail if you have no signal. With this app installed and as long as your phone is connected to the wifi, your phone will ring as normal showing the person calling you as it would if you had signal.
I appreciate it's not an ideal fix, because in a perfect world O2 would want you to have signal in your home regardless of whether or not you have wifi at home, but as a temporary measure until your contract ends I would recommend looking out for this app, as it will save you the hassle of having to pay a cancellation fee and then when you are out of contract, you can re-evaluate your options to see which network provider will offer the best coverage for what you need.
Who knows in the meantime we may even have built a mast in your new area and you can stay with O2!!

I'm afraid that's it's just fact that there are invaribly locations where you will get little or no reception. This is governed by various factors such as buildings, materials, location etc.
I doubt very much that you will be able to leave your contract without penalties although I do sympathise. I'm presuming you had adequate network coverage before you moved so O2 can't really be at fault for you not checking coverage in your new location.
Have you tried your postcode at http://status.o2.co.uk/

I saw that date in the first comment at the end of this article, but no validation:

So unofficial then. But let's hope it's accurate, it's badly needed.
