I just clicked from uswitch to an £8.99 contract, but the purchase screen is saying my bill will be £10.79 AND will increase from April by £1.80
This isn't correct.
The first month should be £8.99 and from April £10.79 ( which is a ridiculous 20% increase, thanks ofcom)

Your first bill after an upgrade (you did hit the check box for "upgrade", I trust?) is often odd, due to the month in advance billing O2 uses
You should contact O2 via Social Media to find out if there has been a mistake @Eddie_Baby
Either of these will work:

It's not an upgrade. I clicked 'add a new number to my account' and went through the process as normal. I just don't want it to increase ANOTHER £1.80 on the next bill
How do you get that screenshot?
I see this

It does warn you that the price will increase every April
How did you miss that?

Read the little bit at the bottom of the screenshot in my previous message, @Eddie_Baby - when does your billing cycle start and end?

My usual bill is calculated on the 16th and takes at the start of the month

On your new account it takes a couple of days to set up the billing.
So you pay for those days plus the first month in advance
The billing date won't be the same date as your other account
You’ll get your first bill within four days of joining O2, and you’ll be charged 14 days after you receive it. Your official billing date is usually the date you joined us, and it will be the same every month.
If you joined us on the 29th, 30th or 31st of the month, your official billing date will be the 1st of the following month. Your first bill will be pro rata, which means that we’ll charge you for one full month’s airtime, as well as any airtime you use in those first few days before your billing cycle starts.

That doesn't answer my question in any way.
The screenshot I shared should say initial monthly cost £8.99.
