Incorrect recycling

My sister in law spitefully handed in my sons phone that I bought him for recycling. How can I get it back. The shop, 02 web and 02 recycling are all passing the buck

Hi @Anonymous sorry to hear about what you've gone through with the phone and O2 Recycle.

Thanks for the tag @jonsie.

Assuming that the correct process was followed as they mentioned to you when you called - in a nutshell from the T&Cs (see the part about How The Contract Is Formed Between You And Us😞 If the device didn’t belong to them and was taken, and possibly if the person passed themselves off as the account holder, then it may go into the areas of theft & fraud.

Has the phone been assessed by o2 recycle yet?
The normal process is that they assess the device then contact you with an offer price. At this point you can choose to accept the offer and get paid or reject the offer and request a return of the device.

I'm just amazed that anyone, including your sister in law, can hand in a phone bought by you for your son?!

Whether it was for recycling or any other reason....

I have no idea of the circumstances...but that isn't on at all. Evil

That's simply theft. O2 Recycle had no right just accepting the phone for recycle without proof of ownership, especially when the phone is going to be in someone else's name. Yes she would know the name and address but what about her id? So I can steal someone's phone and take it to O2 for recycling?

Or was she upgrading? I can't help feeling there is more to this story....

Based on the facts we have I would be straight round the police station!

I have asked for it back but they said it was “gone”.

I complained and they said the proper procedure was carried out!!!

So anyone can take a phone back out of pure spite and recycle it !

You need to make a complaint as that is not the correct process.
Something not right here at all
