I was paying for my sons mobile phone on a monthly contract - transfer issues

I have been paying my sons monthly mobile contract for several years now. He wants to take over this account we called o2 and they advised to set up a new account in his name and then transfer the number. Communicated on chat today to transfer the number and was advised to set up a conf call via 202 to get the transfer agreed. I get the impression no one at O2 has had this problem before - can this be true?

The procedure is correct.

Your son opens up his own contract.

You both then be on the same call to customers services and they'll transfer the mobile number to the new contract.

Any outstanding payments will be payable via a final bill as this closes the original contract.

I think O2 have had this problem before We have had a number of threads with people in a similar situation

You have been given the correct advice - You son needs to pass a credit check and obtain his own contract. You can then relinquish the number to him to use on the new account. The old account will close immediately.
