If it's a refresh contract then yes, pay off the phone then just give 30 days notice to end the airtime. You are then free to walk away. Ifo here...

If the phone is unlocked you can put any sim in and it will work wherever you are...(even when you go abroad and use a local sim) @Anonymous

Yes, inserting any foreign sim card will then prompt you for the code. You need to put the sim card in the phone first. You only need to unlock the phone once and then it will accept sim card.
