So I’ve called 202, messages o2 and gone in to both Apple and O2 today trying to connect an o2 Apple Watch cellular plan with my Apple Watch Ultra 2.

I’m an existing o2 customer with an iPhone 16 pro max. I bought both the phone and Apple Watch privately. Not through Apple or O2.

upon speaking to an O2 advisor in store today / I was informed O2 are AWARE of the codes and are AWARE it doesn’t work.

o2 know you can not link a cellular plan to your Apple Watch if you didn’t buy your watch and plan through them.

basically - the only way to get an O2 cellular plan working on an Apple Watch is to be an existing o2 customer AND buy the watch and cellular plan though o2!!!!

this feels completely illegal and I’m shocked to have been told this today. I’m starting to look in to how to raise this with the ombudsman but thought it worth posting for others to be aware

@DanWolff

It's very rare that O2 contact anyone as promised.

I know it's Easter but if they haven't been in touch by the suggested time frame, then you'll need to contact them again.

Our forum manager will be back on Tuesday so I'll tag @Dave-O2 to the post.

@Enlli

Thanks, was having a break as not been well..

@DanWolff

Take that 72hrs with a pinch of salt, as it will be at least a week and a half if anyone from o2 will call you back..
Also what customer (no)service told you is total and complete BS, as I had an Apple watch bought from Amazon which worked for months, but then stopped for some reason..

My advice when it comes to any smartwatch and o2, just dont do it, its really not worth the hassle... and the useless and incompetent CS haven't a clue on how to support any smart watch...

This is not customer services and we dont have access to your account
I do not work for o2 or any VMo2 /Telefonica/Liberty Global Company

Do keep the chat thread warm by pinging them every day or so, @DanWolff - I had to do likewise for queries, handy to have all history on the thread:

Update: I managed to take the 30 day plan out. It’s now sat in the watch app under mobile plan saying o2 Activating with that spinning circle.

I turned off WiFi on the watch AND turned off watch mobile data within mobile data usage in the phone setting - and it allowed me to complete the plan without an error code…

now we wait to see if the plan actually activates

Briefly outlining all steps I’ve taken today so other reading this with the same issue can also try:

I reset phone to factory settings

same for watch

backup from iCloud

Tried various combinations of things either being on or off whilst trying to take the cellular plan out… tried disconnecting Bluetooth from the watch. Tried disconnecting WiFi. Tried disconnecting mobile data app. Tried combos of each. Tried them all on. Finally got it working with the below setup.

newly restored and backed up phone and watch.
iPhone on latest software (beta). Watch on latest software. iPhone connected to WiFi. Watch connected to iPhone via Bluetooth only. Wi-Fi off on watch. Watch mobile data off under mobile service within iPhone settings.
logged in to my o2 account within the watch app through mobile services.
selected plan and continued

I really thought I may have cracked it. However the loading circle is still spinning. And it still says activating.
Upon more research this is also a problem people have…

Starting to lose the will 😫

No luck. Have gone in to o2 to revert back to a physical sim as I saw a previous post saying that worked. But no luck.
I unpaired the watch removing the data plan. Went to set up again and back to the original 900 error code - my previous steps no longer working to get past that phase.

this is fun!
