Hello, I am a Uni Student and I was in the process of getting my first contract phone when I believed had made the payment, turns out I hadn't, and wwas then asked to pay and additional £200 upfront for the deposit when the original upfront was £9.99 they said credit score but i dont understand how it will affect me as I am only in uni unless its because of my phone?

Another note my ID passport got lost in the post and my Provisional is also in the mail currently and imm picking up my phone tomorrow, would my Door Supervisor ID Badge work and a birth certificate and also proof of adress?

Take a look here @Anonymous for more info about the credit checking process, your credit file and the deposit you were asked to pay. https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Pay-Monthly-Pay-and-Go/O2-Credit-Files-amp-quot-Credit-Scores-quot-What-does-it-all/ba-p/1072523

To briefly summarise, assuming you have no adverse credit history it's likely that you were asked to pay a deposit because you have limited credit history on which O2 can base a lending decision - so the security deposit helps to protect against risk. Assuming you make your payments in full and on time for the first 3 months, you can either have the deposit amount applied as a credit to your O2 account, or refunded back to your bank account.

Operating your O2 account well and in accorance with your agreement will also help to build a positive record on your credit file, which will be taken into account by other prospective lenders in the future. slight_smile

I work for O2, however any advice or opinion given in this community should be considered my own and not necessarily representative of Telefónica UK Limited.
