I've been reading threads about 1GB data been used in a day I have just had the same symptom since I upgraded from 500mb to 1GB within 2 days ive used 80% of my data my wife is the same we have android so not an iphone proplem
It seems to me the only to solve this problem is to change to another mobile net work as o2 cant help even if we have to buy out of contract

I suggest you reset your phones data counter on the 1st day your tariff renews and check what you are actually using. If you find it's much less than O2 thinks you can take screenshots to help O2 investigate the problem.
Also make sure your hotspot is off and that you aren't sharing data with anyone else.

When did you upgrade as you won't get the full data allowance until your renewal date.
The additional allowance is only pro rata until then.
