Complete loss of 3G singal!

Anonymous
Not applicable

For the last 3 weeks now I've not had 3G coverage in my local area.  My phone shows 'E' but with full bars (connected to the 2G network) where is used to have 'H' and full bars.

I've called o2 several times and they state that there's no mast issues at all and suggested resetting my APN or creating a new APN via the support email they send out:

1. Tap the Applications key
2. Tap Settings
3. Tap More in Wireless and Networks
4. Tap Mobile networks
5. Make sure that the Data Enabled box has a  tick in it (tap box to change)

6. Tap Access Point Names
7. Tap the 3 dots on the bottom Right of the screen

8. Tap New APN
9. Tap Name then tap the text box and enter O2 Pay Monthly then tap OK
10. Tap APN then tap the text box and enter wap.o2.co.uk then tap OK
11. Tap Proxy then tap the text box and enter 193.113.200.195 then tap OK
12. Tap Port then tap the text box and enter 8080 then tap OK
13. Tap Username then tap the text box and enter o2wap then tap OK
14. Tap Password then tap the text box and enter password then tap OK
15. Skip past Server as this is preset as Not set
16. Tap MMSC then tap the text box and enter http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002 then tap OK
17. Tap MMS proxy then tap the text box and enter 193.113.200.195 then tap OK
18. Tap MMS port then tap the text box and enter 8080 then tap OK
19. Tap MCC then tap the text box and enter 234 then tap OK
20. Tap MNC then tap the text box and enter 10 then tap OK
21. Tap Authentication type and tap PAP
22. Tap APN type and enter default, supli
23. Press the 3 Dots on the Bottom Right of the screen

24. Tap Save
25. Tap the circle next to the new profile so a green dot appears in it

26. Press the Back key four times to return to the main menu.

I've done this several times now but the issue is still there.  I've checked the o2 status checker and it's all showing as ok.

If I go into the city centre, my phone works fine and when I'm at home it's no worries as I connect to my wireless but if I'm out and about I'm left with a 2G brick.

Prior to the last three weeks I've had flawless coverage and have done for the past few years.

I did a local mast search and my local UMTS mast is shared with vodafone and o2 were doing work in said mast at the time I lost 3G.

Any ideas?

I have a stock, unrooted Nexus 4 running Android 4.3.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like 3G is turned off on that particular mast whilst they are working on it......?
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

You can check here with your full postcode to see if there's any maintenance being done:

http://status.o2.co.uk/

If it works elsewhere then your settings are fine.

Possible, the network engineers don't always keep customer services up to date.

Your settings are correct so it's obviously a network problem. Are others on O2 having problems in your area?

Most of the people I know around my area are on EE or Voda =(

I guess if I keep calling they might come clean and tell me the mast still has issues.

They have no reason not to tell you if they know, which they probably don't.

There is no bonus paid for not telling you! Smiley Indifferent
