Cancelling contract early and starting a new o2 contract?

Anonymous

Hi,

I currently have a pay monthly 24 month contract with o2 on my blackberry.

It doesn't end until June 2014.

However, I would like to cancel this contract and start another o2 sim only pay monthly contract to go in the new iPhone 5s handset I have already bought.

Would this be possible? If so how would I do it and what charges would I incur?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

p.s. Would I be able to keep the same number?

Absolutely, no point cancelling and paying termination fees when you can still use it in your iPhone.
Order a NANO sim and complete a sim swap http://swapmysim.o2.co.uk/ then when the swap is complete call 202 to ask for your data package to be switched to iData (it's free), then you are all set to go.

You can just change sim cards and change to idata and keep the same contract until it runs out. Otherwise you will have to pay off the remaining months on your current contract. The best thing for you to do would be to call into an O2 store and let them do the switch for you there.

Would it cost me anything to do that?

Not a penny. You will eventually need to give 30 days notice before your contract expires, otherwise it will become a one month rolling contract, which is essentially a sim only contract. At that point you can switch to a new sim only tariff if it's better than what you're on now.
