Use switch up to cancel a contract?

So, I currently have a plus plan with a honor magic V3 and I want to upgrade to a Fold 7 (just my cavemen brain needing the new shiny shiny).

Thing is, I found an offer on Samsung's own website for the 512gb Fold 7 with an unlimited (data, minutes and texts) O2 contract for 24 months £60/month and £219 upfront, but on O2's website with the same details (512gb Fold 7, 24 months, £219 upfront and unlimited contract) it comes out to basically £87/month, which is a hell of a lot more than on Samsung's website for literally the same phone and contract with O2.

So is it possible for me to upgrade through switch up to a SIM only plan and then cancel it within the 14 days cool off period? Or if I need to get a device, upgrade to the cheapest device+airtime plan and cancel it within the 14 days? To then be able to get the phone from Samsung? While only giving O2 money for like 1 more month of airtime or whatever that comes out to.

Nice idea, but no.

"back out of and terminate your new contract, if you’re within the relevant 14 day change of mind period, returning the new device to us and therefore choosing to continue with your existing device in accordance with the terms of your existing contract. You will continue to be responsible for the ongoing payments associated with it (although, note that your existing device plan and airtime plan will be capable of being cancelled separately moving forwards, unlike before)"

Thanks for the link, I looked up that bit that you provided, and that seems to be the case only when your existing device doesn't meet the criteria to be accepted into switch up for O2 to pay off the device plan, then they'll offer you freely cancel the new contract and take the old contract back. I can't seem to find anywhere where it mentions that if my existing device is accepted, the switch up is completed and the device plan is paid off through switch up, that I can't change my mind on the new contract within the 14 days and just leave without being dragged back to the old contract, since they accepted the current device into their switch up programme. I might be wrong, but from that text, that's how I read it.

If that's still not possible, would I be able to upgrade to like whatever the cheapest phone they have (£50 or whatever), pay it off then tell O2 I want to cancel the airtime and pay for that month of airtime? Because I really want to upgrade, but paying £27 a month extra just because it's from O2's website and not Samsung's seems like O2 expect us to not only bend over, but spread the cheeks as well.

The part I quoted specifically relates to your change of mind period (done to prevent what you are suggesting). Your second option of getting the cheapest possible and paying off immediately is your only choice (if that works out cheaper than paying off your current device plan).
