3.9% annual increase for old customers?

I read an (possibly old) article in the Guardian which said that customers who were with o2 prior to 2021 did not have to pay the annual 3.9% increase on their contract. And that if you were charged you could leave without penalty.
I cannot find this information anywhere on o2 site. Does anyone know if this is a fact?

Also is there anywhere on My o2 that  I could find when I first became an o2 customer ( other than find bank statements)

Many thanks.

@AngieKK

Everyone has to pay the rpi increase but customers prior to 2021 who have not changed their tariff, do not have to pay the additional increase portion.

RPI - 2024

You would have to call o2 and ask them as to when you first became a customer..

As to the first part, then I think you have read a really old article on the Guardian, as its been 3.9%+CPI for the last good few years, so no you cant leave fee free, unless your contract has come to an end, and anyone signing up in the last 3 or 4 years has been on the terms above since then..

And if you are on Refresh then you just pay off your handset and at the same time cancel.

O2 have probably archived those pages by now but this is stated here on MSE https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2022/02/millions-of-o2-and-three-customers-are-to-be-hit-with...

@AngieKK Not quite sure who you're addressing, as you gave yourself the solution. What info are you referring to?

Bambino-I thought I was addressing M15 who answered my question, and then I asked where I would find this info ( that she/he gave me) on o2 site? Not entirely sure I understand your point. But never mind I do have an answer now.
