my dad only needs his phone in case of emergencies does not use that often.why not have a £5 top up because he had nearly £5 left and because he hasnt topped up in the last 6 months this was wiped out and lost £5 doesnt seem fair to me at all .what do other people think?

Those unfortunately are the terms and conditions. However, O2 can usually reconnect the number and recredit it even after the 6 months (my son had one reconnected after almost 12 months and got his credit back) Give them a call or use live chat.

Its part of the terms and conditions of O2 PAYG. You need to make a chargeable call or text every 6 months and top up every 999 days to keep the number active.
The minimum top up has been £10 for as long as I can remember...

@peterjake For most people £5 won't get them very far these days, which is probably why the tariff is £10. As suggested, speak to customer service to see if you can get the £5 and the number reinstated.

O2 stopped £5 top ups way back when but not too sure if all the other networks allow you to. EE definitely have £5.00 top ups.
