Until you get back into your account, @Lynne7 - balance can be found out by keying*#10# for actual balance left, or by sending BALANCE to 20202 from your SMS app.
And you do not need to log in to your MyO2 to top up either, go to https://www.o2.co.uk/topup and key in your number, enter card details and address; or check other ways here: Guide How to Top Up (PAYG)
