I have PAYG and go to Spain a few times a year. Phone & texts work fine but data NEVER works. I called O2 when I cam back last year and spoke at length with an advisor and everything is set up correctly apparently but it still does not connect to data when in Spain! Any ideas please?

Just to follow this up, I wnet into our local O2 shop in Cardiff and spoke with one of the Gurus and after a bit of confusion, he updated something and it says it should work - but not in Spain until April, so can't confirm if he has fixed it or not!

You will almost definitely have the wrong data bolt on. Call customer service and ask them to specifically check this.

PAYG phones use a unique APN which should work everywhere.

Check your APN is "payandgo.o2.co.uk'

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Thanks guys. O2 customer service certainly didn't mention that MI5! When I try to connect to payandgo it asks am I sure as 'mods to default APN may cause problems'? Can I simply swicth back to mobileO2? I am guessing I won't know until I get to Spain on Monday whether it works?

It won't (shouldn't) mess up anything in UK so go ahead and change it.

You can always change it back if for some strange reason it doesn't work.

For android:

Name : o2 mobile web

APN : payandgo.o2.co.uk

Proxy, Port  : Please leave blank

Username - payandgo

Password - password

For iPhone

APN : payandgo.o2.co.uk

Username : vertigo

Password : password

OK thanks, its android, I can click on it and  check all of the details, SAVE but when I go back into APNs its still on mobile.o2 - there are only 2 'selectable' options, Internet or O2UK, there is no 'tick box' for payandgo??

Sounds like you have a contract sim card.

Can you get to an O2 shop for a free swap to a PAYG sim?

Definitely PAYG, the phone came SIM free and I have my old EE PAYG and added O2 PAYG 2 years ago - the EE is extortinate so only used for incoming calls but O2 is the usual 3, 2, 1p

these are all of the other settings for the payandgo APN.

Server : not set - blank?

MMSC: mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8802

MMS proxy: 193.113.200.195

MMS port: 8080

MCC: 234

MNC: 10

Authentication type: None

APN protocol: IPv4

APN roaming protocol: IPv4

APN enable disable appears to be permently set to APN enable

Bearer: was set to unspecified, I have tried HSPA also?

MVNO type: none

Only the settings I gave you relate to data.

The other settings are for MMS which hardly anyone uses these days.

I would still get a new sim card though as yours is defaulting to contract settings, so it's not right.
