hotspot / Personal Tethering

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

Was trying to setup a hotspot using my Iphone 7, but there wasn't an option under the settings. I've read other threads to suggest your not able to do it with a pay and go sim but these were a few years ago, and the fact is that I was able to do it with a HTC Windows 8X phone no problems on pay and go quite happily for the last 2 years. Is it just on Iphones?

I find it odd that there is no were I can find that talks about personal tethering or Hotspots when looking at contract and pay & go sims, or anywhere else on O2 website.

It's not possible with o2 payg sim cards as you need the iData bolt on.

my old tariff/sim was text and web with no bolt ons, and using my phone as a hotspot worked fine

there is nothing in the t&c's of Pay&Go to state that this would not be available unless you have a specific bolt on, infact as far as I could find there is nothing in the t&c's regarding hotspots or personal tethering at all.

The old tariffs were different.
iData is the standard data bolt on for contract iPhones and not available to payg customers.

Dunno - I don't write the T&C's but it's common knowledge on here.
Found this useful info on Google though http://kenstechtips.com/index.php/tethering-on-uk-networks

thanks, I've sent a complaint to o2 in regards to the wording on the website, but it looks like I would be looking else where next month for a better deal. Will keep the link for then. slight_smile

That's the beauty of payg, although if you got your phone from o2 you'll have to unlock it first.
Shouldn't be a problem as I assume you paid for it outright?

Haha, yeah got it straight from Apple as it worked out cheaper and apparently quicker :P, and that I also hate being locked into a contract. grin
