I have been with O2 for probably 30 years. In the last 18 months where I live in Kingswood, Surrey. The signal and WiFi has deteriorated to the point of uselessness. My village, Walton On The Hill, and Banstead are like a blank patch. I have complained to O2, but get nowhere.
It's not just me, whoever you speak to says " O2? Oh we had to change as it doesn't work around here" it did work it was the best around here but now it is a waste of space.
O2 Web page is almost always down. Web chat unavailable and trying to call is pointless.... can I just put all 5 phones I pay for into a box and return to an o2 store and leave

No you cant, and bare in mind o2 dont guarantee 100% coverage, and the reason for signal issues can be for lots of reasons in your area, such as a land owner not wanting a mast on there land, mast issues and getting parts, your local council not allowing them to put in new infrastructure, NIMBY's protesting about new masts.. etc etc..
Where I am o2 has been getting better and Three has got to a point where its unusable..
To cancel you will have to pay off any outstanding device plans or any termination fees if still in contract... all the details are here Guide: Cancelling Your Contract
If moving to a new network then get some PAYG sims and test network signal, as you may find some are just as bad
I have no issues contacting o2, and the website isn't always down, live chat is based on availability of agents, you can also contact o2 via Social Media, just send them a message on Facebook (https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter (https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram (https://o2uk.co/O2CIG)
