Morning everyone.

So last night I took the plung and downloaded the new OS X firmware Yosemite and by the time I woke up this morning It was ready. I know what you are thinking but my better half has the worst interenet connection in the world, I hope its unlimited.  I've got everything set up, had a play and made sure it is ready to use in my lectures (I hook up the mac to the projector) so lets see how it goes after a days use. I also plan to heavily use the handoff and continuity features with my iPhone 6 Plus and above my 20GB data limit. I will put forward a more detailed review as time goes on, I will be updating my iPhone 6 Plus review this weekend too. However here are a few of my intial points of view: BTW I'm running it on a Macbook Pro 2013 256GB thingy with lots of that ram stuff.

Intial Thoughts and Feelings:

Its stable! very stable! no really, its stable. I've been on this thing for a few hours and not had a fault. This can only be creditied to the dev and public betas and the time it took to release. I did have access to the Beta but this is my primary machine so I wasn't ready to install it and waste ruin my work and personal machine.

Looks AMAZING! i've seen photos and videos but this is a great improvment over previous OS's. It looks modern, fresh and clean. This may be due to my personal tastes as I am a minimalist person and this suit me like a £2000 dolla suit. (say that with an accent). Honestly this looks really good and the updated apps, Safari, iTunes etc look great with it. This truly feels like the best of the Mac OSX and IOS. I feel my Nexus 7 won't be used as much for basic household uses for a while.

On a side note the Yosemite wallpapers look so damn SEXY! I have my own collection of wallpapers but for the first time ever I will be keeping these on my desktops. The bright colours really demonstrate the transparency effect and the clean lines look FINNNNNE on the Retina display.

Spotlight is now a god. Seriously I'm creating a prayer and sacrifce to it and its allmighy power as it now searches everything without a need to load up the internet. I just did the typical Apple Starbucks search and its found my neaest one with the ability to call via my phone.

Now this is all i've had to try yet but rest asured I will pair my phone with this thing and let you know how all the other features work slight_smile

Edit: If anyone is having trouble getting Handoff and Continuity working follow the intructions in this link slight_smile Hand Off and Continuity Setup - MacRumors Forums

Edit 2: I won't be able to try out the calls and texts until IOS 8.1 is released on Monday but I will download and abuse this feature.

Sadly todays lecture focuses around male and female long term mating strategies..... Yep we have them, apparently.

If that helps O2 I am more than happy to work for them on the side wink

@Cleoriff I'm up early anyway. I like to get into my office around 7:45 and drink coffee, play with my Tetris lights and generally get ready to teach these people.

I'm now off to teach 2 hours of advanced research methodologies followed by three hours of Psych of human relationships..... oh boy.

Oh those were the days...thank god they have been left well behind me......LOL

Anyway enjoy your 'play time' ...if you have any that is...:smileywink:

Also just to clear things up, with Mail...
Isn't it meant to be that if I delete something on either my Macbook or iPhone isn't it suppose to delete on the other devices too? Or is that not a feature?

Upon later insepction beleive calls will work as long as you have ticked it to do so in Facetime however SMS integration comes with 8.2. All of this is based on research every now and then so I may be very wrong.

Sadly the works WIFI won't let me try out the calls or handover, maybe something about it.

To add to the review:

I have to reiterate that this OS is beutify to look at and it brings out the child in me, its simply fun. Its nice to have two devices with the same style too. I've been using the OS all day in lectures and researching and I can't keep my hands off it. I have noticed one thing, my updates to the base apps, Keynotes, Pages, iPhoto won't download? this may be becasue of my work connection so I will report when I get home later tonight. I've also noticed some problems with these apps but since there is an update waiting I won't mention them until I have them installed.

I have to agree with a statement i've read in a few reviews, this OS is the perfect partner with IOS. Good work Apple. Now start giving your phones good names, iPhone 6 Plus my arse!!! That name was clearly created at 4:55 on a Friday...

iCloud Drive is a bit of a dissapointment at the moment becasue it won't open and I can't create folders? I may be missing something but if I can store my iPhoto Libary in their and view it on any device I will be a happy chappy.

Handover will be a good feature but not used much in my line of work. My Mac is attached to me during office ours so the only benifit will be starting emails on my Mac and finishing them on my phone. The feature I am looking forward to most is texting people, on any phone, from my mac. I think this will save my iPhones battery life.

I installed Yoesmite on Friday and I also find it very stable. Another good thing with the OS update was it was totally free Bouncy

I know its only its appearance, but it does look very nice too, love the translucency.

I haven't had a chance to really try it out yet, but when I get time I'm going to make some video guides showing iPhone and Yosemite features (such as handoff and any other features I come across) but first I want to spend a bit of time having a lookaround/playaround with it. Not sure how much I would use Handoff though. I might use it for Safari, but then again, when I'm surfing on my iPhone or iPad and then move to my Mac, I'm used to using the iCloud tabs for continuing where I was at on my other devices. But the range of applications will grow as time goes on so perhaps I'll start to use it more then.
