Finding codes

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi, I'm looking for advice on how or where to find my MAC code. I also need to find out where to look for LAN and POp whatever for my e-mail. I've recently had e-mails from some people who use Gmail, and I am unable to respond because I need the LAn and I think POP. The Mac code is what I need at the moment. Sorry, I'm not really technically minded.Smiley Embarassed

BT do fibre and ordinary broadband, their fibre product is called BT Infinity.

O2 Webmail can time out if you're too long so does this forum and the MyO2 pages.

If you use an email program on your pc (which is where you would need the SMTP and POP settings) this wouldn't happen.

You only need a MAC if you want to switch isp's. What email are you using and what phone are you using?

I'm thinking of switching to BT isp for a while to see if it is really faster (free for 3 months) but I hope I'll still have 02 e-mail.  Re the Pop /Lan question I presume that if I sign on to gmail I can still use 02. I have 02 Pay as you Go Phone so not attached to mobile, this is only for broadband on my laptop. I'm so unused to doing this, sorry if I'm confusing you.

Unless you're changing to fibre it won't be any different to O2 and O2 are offering 50% off for renewals.

The speed is governed only by the distance to the exchange and the condition of the line, and this will be the same whoever you are with.

You'll need to call O2 to get your MAC which you then give to BT. I don't think you can pull O2 webmail through GMail but you should be able to set it up in a standard email app.

I was asked which Lan /Pop was used when I tried to reply to the e-mail. Hadn't a clue what it meant or where to find it, and I haven't any idea how to set up a standard e-mail app. Thanks for your response.MI5 I'll check in tomorrow.

So if I am understanding correctly you have O2 email on your laptop and you want to reply to emails but you can't?

Log in here to use webmail or we can set up Outlook for you. http://www.o2.co.uk/myo2/email

Thanks for your reply MI5, your link took me back to my 02 webmail page. Those circumstances don't happen often, I received an e-mail from someone on another site, and I tried to reply using that e-mail reply service but it wouldn't accept it. After querying that with Windows Help, message said that I needed to provide the Lan/Pop server? Maybe I have misunderstood the details. Thanks for your time, I a bit of a dumbcluck at this. I will just copy the address and use my o2 webmail in future.

Thanks for your reply Perksie, BT isn't fibre is it? I've been with o2 for the last 4-5 years. It seems a bit slow sometimes and my webmail fails when I'm creating a longish e-mail, really annoying to lose them into cyberspace. I'm not a massive user, but BT have offered a deal which is cheaper than the one I have. Thought I'd have a change. Still like o2 for my phone though, recommended it to my family and friends.
