False info from police regarding their 101 number

Anonymous
Not applicable
I've just been searching the posts regarding 101 & can see several saying it's a chargeable call. Yet the police tell you it's FREE! Was fuming to find out I'd been charged 30odd pence & never got to speak to anyone. Going to stick with dialing 999 or the old regional numbers (luckily I've kept them). Plus someone seems to answer as soon as it rings!

999 is an emergency number and should not be used for anything else.

Well said @perksie Too many of our emergency services are being abused. No wonder they struggle to get to clients and incidents where they are desperately needed  Smiley Mad

Seriously though, 15p is such a huge amount I can understand the reluctance to call wink

Can I just second the sentiment about abusing the 999 emergency number.

Put it like this, what if a family member desperately needed an ambulance, but it was delayed because some selfish person was using the emergency number instead of 101?

That'd be unforgiveable, right?

Now please, reevaluate your decision to use this number for non emergency matters.

What gets me is, and bear in mind I've never been in a situation to call 999, but the op stated "Going to stick with dialing 999 or the old regional numbers, Plus someone seems to answer as soon as it rings!"
Do they dial 999 regularly?
