I have today applied for a mortgage and unfortunately got declined. This was due to O2 logging a default against me for £12. The default was paid back in June 2018 but the defaukt is still showing on my credit score. O2 customer services have confirmed that the debt was paid in full back in June, however, i have to wait until the credit file refferal department confirm in writing that this default has been cleared and paid in full.

How long do i have to wait before i get this letter confirming the defauly has been paid.

Put a credit file correction on your file in the meantime by writing to all the agencies. Bear in mind that the default would have been logged correctly originally so it may well not be taken off but O2 can correct it as paid. It is a case of O2 agreeing to remove it.

Having said that, O2 may well have been at fault initially if they did not write to you to make you aware there was a debt outstanding. That's what you need to argue their error.

This is why we advise never to cancel a direct debit for at least a month to make sure the account is cleared. We see so many customers that fall victim to this for trifling amounts.

The best of luck with this and do let us know how you get on.

@TrevorBest of luck from me as well.

As @jonsie said it's an awful situation to be in for the sake of £12.00. Follow the advice above and I hope you get an early resolution
