Hi,
I am on an O2 plan. I had a LUmia 820. I have inherited an iPhone. I moved the sim to the iphone, spoke to O2, got the plan changed, and asked for an unlock code for the Lumia.
An unlock code arrived this morning. It has instructions to "press# and then press * three times to get a p", etc, and then a 20 digit code, and then press 7 and # again.
That might be fine for Symbian, Android, etc, but doesn't work for Windows phones.
If you try it with no sim at all, you simply don't get a number pad unless you go to telep[hone dial screen, when pressing * does NOT get your a P or a W.
If I put a non-O2 sim in, the ONLY characters available are numbers. It does bring up a password screen, but no facility to enter the PW or any of that stuff. I have tried it with just the 20digit code: it did not work. I am absolutely certain that I got the code right.
I have googled this problem. Vodafone have a long topic about it, and seem to have fixed it, but did not share the solution in the thread, only PM'ing it to Vodafone customers.
I really want to unlock this Lumia, but would be grateful for confirmation that o2 know how to do it, and then a useful walkthrough which does not start "press #" as that means nothing on a windows phone.
I took the LUmia into my local o2 shop today. They were unable to help.
Thanks

Hi,
I'm sorry but ive not owned that model of mobile.
Hopefully another member with a solution will come along soon for you.
Have you tried ringing 02 on 202 for clarification.
From what i see on the net it should be just to insert the alternative sim and the handet should prompt you for the unlocking code !
Edit :
Nokia Lumia Input Instructions
1 - Insert a sim card that is not from the original network.
2 - Phone will now state the following:
This sim card can only be used on specific networks. Contact your customer service center for the unlock code. (it will also display how many attempts are left).
3 - Press the Enter Pin Button and enter your unlock code we supplied you to unlock your phone.
Nokia BB5 Code Input Instructions ( All Newish Nokia Phones are BB5)
1 - Switch ON your phone without SIM Card,
2 - Compose #PW+CODE+1#
To get letter P press * button quickly 3 times
To get letter W press * button quickly 4 times
To get letter + press * button quickly 2 times
3 - The phone show "SIM Restriction Off" and was unlocked !

Hi, BOB.
Thanks for replying. I've seen the instructions that you posted:
I tried the Lumia ones (the top ones). It didn't work with three sims that I tried. Again, I am certain I got the number right.
The second bit, the BB5, isn't for Windows Phones: you'll see that it mentions the "press* to get P" thing again, which simply does not work on Windows Phones.
Hopefully someone can confirm what they've done. Thanks for looking, though.

I'm wondering if 02 have made a mistake and sent the wrong unlock code sequence.
I would request another unlock code.
If its the same then perhaps contact the phone manufacturer support department directly explaining in detail about not being able to input the code.

Yep, pay monthly, and contacting Nokia sounds like it might be a plan...

Hi Lawboy1976,
Did you eventually manage to get the unlock code keyed into the phone ?
