I want to use my current SIM (O2 24 months contract) in a new Blackberry (currently using an xperia), do I need any bolt ons to access all the BBM apps? Can I just plug in the SIM and start using the Blackberry?

You will need to get the Blackberry bolt on for that particular phone.
EDIT:just seen your reply BOB, yes it's needed.

Which Blackberry are you getting? The older ones need the Blackberry bolt on but the latest don't.
