Hi ... Is O2 now supporting the 4g version with an esim?  If not when will this be supported as considering buying a watch.  Want the 4g but may need to change network provider but if imminent will wait ... please provide update?  Thanks

No.
o2 only support the iWatch over cellular.
No idea as to if they will, but not likely.

Bringing eSIM capability to other devices is a priority for us and we know how frustrating it may be for those looking to use the O2 network on the Samsung Galaxy Watch LTE model, but we’re unable to share any further info on if/when this might be supported on the O2 network I'm afraid.

If it does happen, it's unlikely to be imminently so if having this particular watch with full network connectivity is important to you, you may need to explore options with other networks that may support it.
