Nokia Lumia 800 would not charge.

Last month, my charger port was damaged when it fell on the ground whilst charging.  I sent it off to o2 to see if they could fix it, as advised by an o2 guru.  I recevied an email from the 02 repair team stating "We are sorry to advise that your handset is not covered under the warranty set by nokia due to Physical damage the handset will be returned to yourself as it is beyond repair."   I thought, surely something could be done, I was willing to pay for repairs, so couldnt believe it was "beyond repair."   I decided to risk it and sent it off to a man selling on ebay, charger port repair service.   Yesterday I received my phone back, in full working order.

Are o2 just lazy?  or are there repair team clueless?
