I started the Zika Virus thread in January when it was first found to be in Brazil South America.

Breaking news this morning. It's now in Florida.

Four people suffering from the Zika virus in Florida are probably the first cases contracted within the US, health officials say. These are in the Miami Dade and Broward Counties areas

I have started a new thread as the advice is...newly pregnant women planning to fly to these areas for any reason (including holidays) should think of postponing their trip

It'll be no biggie once they find the cure - mozzies have been spreading malaria for years but that's no longer news worthy.

Did you know that the Zika virus was first identified in monkeys in Uganda in 1947.
The first infected human was diagnosed in 1954.
It isn't the huge great issue that the press would have you believe?

Though this isn't the original Zika virus... it has 'transmogrified'  Hence the awful risk to pregnant women giving birth to babies with microcephaly ...so yes it IS a big deal. Other modes of transmission have also been identified ...If it wasn't a huge issue then CDC and Public Health UK wouldn't be giving out travel warnings

First time they have done this with Zika....

It is scary @Cairdeas and the reason some of the athletes at Olympics decided against entering. As for Florida well it's holiday season. As said by the director of P.H (UK) it isn't near the holiday area of Orlando yet....but it is in Miami some 30 miles away. I have been to Florida 5 times and got bitten by mozzies more than I ever did anywhere else. It's so humid there. A perfect breeding ground

I must admit, I would definitely think twice before going, knowing the effects it could have later on.

I hope a full cure for this modern version of the disease is found soon!

Is transmogrified even a word?
