Yes, it is difficult picking an all-time top ten, because there have been so many good films over the years, and there's a few classics that have been mentioned in this thread already. Although I can't remember too much about it, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was the first X rated film that I ever saw as a teenager. I've just googled it again, and apparently it was only the second film to win all five major Academy Awards.
Speaking of Academy Awards, I'm surprised that no one picked "Schindler's List" as one of their favourites. The only reason it didn't make mine, is because I struggle with films that last more than three hours, which is why I can't sit through "Lord of the Rings" either.
Edit: according to this link, only three films have ever won the "Big Five Academy Awards".

To add to those others have posted that I didn't include.... The Silence of the Lambs is a film I have watched 5 times (even though I know how it ends)....and Rain Man I loved as well.
So I would conclude I have too many films to compile a top 10 list.
