Does anybody know where the Easter Egg came from?

We all know that Easter is a Christian tradition, but who created the Easter Egg?  Is it supposed to symbolize something?

P.S. what's your favourite egg? I like the Cadbury Buttons eggs.....yum yum

Then I'd use bing , ask Jeeves or the library.

I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't know without searching first on that subject.

And at least the thread won't grow to numerous pages on the subject.
