It's finally here...10 years after the original Planet Earth and well worth the wait. Filming technology has come a long way in the decade since the first series. It has become possible to get even closer to nature, show things in new ways, show new things. The planet itself has changed in those 10 years, too; never has it been more fragile and precious.
Narrated by the wonderful Sir David Attenborough so it could be nothing more than superb
The first episode was about Islands and their inhabitants.
We saw Pygmy Sloths travelling miles (slowly) and swimming across a lake.....in order to mate.
Komodo Dragons fighting to the death...again to get mating rights...
Then in typical OMG filming we saw baby marine iguana hatchlings....appearing out of the sand and making a run to meet up with the adults basking on the rocks....and suddenly being chased by dozens of Racer snakes. Some made it...others did not.
This one was lucky....
Breathtaking, Stunning and well worth the watch....

@Anonymous That's definitely going in the stocking, even if I have to treat myself
Really looking forward to the mountain episode.

@Martin-O2 I think the double package with the Blue-Ray would be an awesome christmas gift. THe photography and video footage is amazing and I cannot wait for Episode 2 (Mountains)
Been waiting a long time for JD to knock on my door but never going to happen @Anonymous....
I am also looking forward to Episode 2....with the Snow Leopards (and everything else of course)

I eventually got some time to watch episode 2 in peace....late last night
Again well worth the wait.
A few heart in mouth moments I thought. The Nubian Ibex balancing on the tiniest of mountain ridges for their 1000 ft climb down to get water. The fox lying in wait for the young kids who were making the climb down for the first time.
The Golden Eagle section was stunningly filmed. Apparently they filmed that using helicopters and hang gliding cameramen.
Needless to say my favourite part was all about the Snow Leopards. We saw unique footage of these elusive big cats. The mother protecting her cub against two predatory males was heart wrenching. Superb yet again

I will be watching tonight, cannot wait, the episode sounds amazing. Book arrived and I have not opened it as I am wrapping it up for a stocking filler for my wife. I was tempted to take a peek though

Honestly.. don't want to give any spoilers....but these flamingos provided the comedy moment. They stand on the lake which freezes over at night leaving them stuck ....they have to wait for the sun to rise before they can free themselves.....Their mating dance is hilarious...

Apparently not @Marjo. They sleep standing up with feet encased in ice.....then in the morning they wake up....and wait for the sun to rise to release them...Then they start the mating dance....
