It's finally here...10 years after the original Planet Earth and well worth the wait. Filming technology has come a long way in the decade since the first series. It has become possible to get even closer to nature, show things in new ways, show new things. The planet itself has changed in those 10 years, too; never has it been more fragile and precious.
Narrated by the wonderful Sir David Attenborough so it could be nothing more than superb
The first episode was about Islands and their inhabitants.
We saw Pygmy Sloths travelling miles (slowly) and swimming across a lake.....in order to mate.
Komodo Dragons fighting to the death...again to get mating rights...
Then in typical OMG filming we saw baby marine iguana hatchlings....appearing out of the sand and making a run to meet up with the adults basking on the rocks....and suddenly being chased by dozens of Racer snakes. Some made it...others did not.
This one was lucky....
Breathtaking, Stunning and well worth the watch....

I was so annoyed at his rationale for moaning. He said and I quote " there was absolutely no need for them to show the footage of the female snow leopard allowing 2 males to fight over her for the right to mate"
Two points
1) She did this in order to draw them away from her cub who would have been killed had it been spotted by either of the males
More importantly
2) Footage of the elusive snow leopard is extremely rare. Efforts to film them in the wild have largely been unsuccessful. The efforts they made to get 6 minutes took years of planning. It was superb.

So why wasn't he in awe (as I was) at seeing snow leopardsin their natural habitat and not behind bars at a zoo or being hunted by the scum of the earth? If it offends him that much then I hope he doesn't watch the rest of the series otherwise we will be subjected to more diatribe and small-mindedness.

The 3rd episode Jungles...was again magnificent.
River Dolphins... swimming in the treetops due to the floods...(filming eventually managed by drones after the worst rain ever experienced by the camera crew). Glass frogs and their fight against wasps...The most beautiful birds I have ever seen. Lemurs and spider monkeys.....
This weeks OMG moment for me was footage of the jungle jaguars. Stunningly beautiful and powerful. They search along the river banks for their prey . One male was filmed in his hunt to catch a caiman alligator. His plunge into the water....bite down on the back of the caimans skull...and the prize is his.
.
Even more breathtaking was watching this big cat climb up a tree with the caiman in his mouth.
