Hey everyone,

Almost year to the day from the launch of the new polymer 5 pound note, its big brother the 10 pound note arrives tomorrow! Like the fiver, the new 10 pound note is made of a plastic polymer and is cleaner, will last longer and can even survive a trip through the washing machine! The note will feature the 19th century author Jane Austen, who is most well known for the Pride & Prejudice novel.

Last years fiver caused some upset to the vegan and some religious communities as the polymer contained trace amounts of tallow which comes from animal fat. Unfortunately the 10 pound note will still contain tallow, as will the planned twenty pound note due in 2020.

On the plus side the new notes feature enhanced security features such as micro lettering and holograms and will have raised areas to help the blind and partially sighted slight_smile

After using the new style fivers for a year what do you think of them? Are you a fan or would you like to return to the more traditional notes?

We also have a £50 note. Not seen many of these personally as I never carried that much cash. But they do exist 😉

The only occasions that I've seen any have been in Harrods....and always flourished with exuberance to ensure that everybody within a 10 metre radius sees them.

Not just Harrods @Beenherebefore. I saw the odd poser in Waitrose as well.

You have to laugh. It's obvious what they're doing so no one really takes any notice.

One such chap, whose card was refused, waved a bunch under my nose to show he had funds. If I could have I would have said 'well you should have paid your credit card bill then!'

I always had a £50 note in my wallet folded up into four so I could slip it behind the photograph of my wife and kids. For emergencies only and it was quite comforting knowing it was there.

Of course the one big problem being that it was really only the big stores that accepted them. The smaller retailers tend not to carry that much change in their float.

But there's no 100, 200, 500, 1000?

In Mark we had them all, Euro has only til 500. So it's just two steps left to change all the money from you! grin

The higher the value the more likely the attempt to counterfeit.....as the EU discovered with the 500€ note.

At one point there were almost as many genuine 500€ notes in circulation as counterfeit.....and yes that is the right way around.
