I am beginning to think 'private message' is a bit misleading and I'm in the process of deleting them all and will continue to delete any I send in future (should there be a future).

Are actually private. They are being accessed which is totally wrong. If I want to send a PM then I expect it to be private. They are obviously not.

It would be nice if we could have an offical & truthful statement from the forum staff about whats going on & if they can actually read PM's between members, I very much doubt we will get one though.

I believe it's a reasonable request to ask if PM's can be accessed by any level of forum staff.
