The 02 Community is renown for its members offering help and for caring.

It is with great pleasure that I can announce that, thanks to the support of members of this Community, an adoption has been set up with the Born Free Foundation for what is known as the Elephant Family.

The Born Free Adoption Certificate will be in the name of the "02 Community".

It has been decided that one of these elephants should be named HOPE.

The adoption pack, with the adoption certifciate and photos of these beautiful creatures, should be received within the next few days and will be posted on this thread.

In the meantime, here is a short video of these beautiful elephants and the Born Free Foundation:

Thank you @EmilieT for making HOPE - the 02 Community Elephant one of the Featured Topics.

More facts on African Elephants:

(an indication of Hope`s future)

Elephants mature around 12 years of age.

Mature male elephants (known as bulls) live outside of the family herd; mating after courtship.

Pregnancy lasts 22 months, mother is assisted at birth by a "midwife".

Elephants are herbivours (plant-eaters).

Mature elephants feed for 75% of the time, consuming up to 200kg of grass, leaves, twigs, bark every day;

and drink 225 litres of water each day.

@EmilieT

If you ever get a chance to see a programme (first shown on BBC) called Elephant Diaries, it's well worth a watch.

Also Natures Epic Journeys: Elephants is another excellent programme.

We’re extremely concerned by today’s news that Botswana’s Ministry of Environment has lifted its ban on elephant hunting, putting the lives of some of the country’s estimated 127,000 #elephants at risk. Read more: bit.ly/2HyGUhu #KeepWildlifeInTheWild #HuntingBan

It happens, @Cleoriff because money talks. It's all about the money to be made killing these animals for their ivory, tigers for their skins and lions for their heads on a 'tropy' wall. They have no care or concern for the animals themselves, as long as they can make money on them, they will.

And I imagine someone, or several someones were bribed in the Government to change the law in favour of the hunters.

Absolutely despicable rage
