The 02 Community is renown for its members offering help and for caring.

It is with great pleasure that I can announce that, thanks to the support of members of this Community, an adoption has been set up with the Born Free Foundation for what is known as the Elephant Family.

The Born Free Adoption Certificate will be in the name of the "02 Community".

It has been decided that one of these elephants should be named HOPE.

The adoption pack, with the adoption certifciate and photos of these beautiful creatures, should be received within the next few days and will be posted on this thread.

In the meantime, here is a short video of these beautiful elephants and the Born Free Foundation:

Extremely well protected though @Mi-Amigo. When a predator is close by, all the mature elephants gather round the babies to ensure they are kept safe.

Lovely question, @EmilieT

Elephant - facts and figures:

newborn baby elephant: 91cm [2.98ft] tall at shoulders; weighs 77kg [169lbs] - 113kg [249lbs]

grows to adult elephant: 2.5m [8ft] - 4m [13ft] tall at shoulders; weighs 2268kg [5000lbs] - 6350kg [14,000lbs]

newborn is raised to its feet within minutes of being born.

newborn consumes 11.4 litres of mother`s milk per day.

dependant on mother for three to five years.

From what I can gather, Hope would have been around about 1m [3ft] tall at shoulders when born [a little above average, his twin sister was smaller, around 90cm], about 14 months ago, so Hope will now be about 1.2m [3.5ft] tall at the shoulders.

As @Cleoriff said Hope`s family will surround and protect him if necessary.

Along with the awful practice regarding Canned Lion Hunting. Despicable.

I can report that Will Travers of the Born Free Foundation had a meeting this week with Michael Gove, the environment secretary, who is said to be sympathetic to a ban and is considering implimenting a ban

I find killing all animals for sport despicable, whether it's lions in Africa, Tigers in Asia or foxes here at home. Animals have as much right to share this planet as we do.

And I've never understood, and never will, what pleasure anyone can get killing a defenceless animal. And yes, even a lion, unless they've suddenly learned how to handle a gun, is defenceless, particularly where they're bred purely to be killed.

I wonder, if the situation could be reversed those self-same hunters would feel the same about the so-called sport. Sport for man, less so for the animals they kill!

Absolutely, @Cleoriff all despicable. And quite frankly ALL should be banned.

But then members of The Royal Family still hunt don't they?
