ITV have started revealing the names of the candidates for Dancing On Ice 2025.

This is a show watched and commented on by myself, @sheepdog and @Mi-Amigo and others.

First candidate is

FERNE McCANN

DOI 25 Fern.jpg

DOI 25 Fern.jpg

Ferne is classed as a TV personality who appeared in TOWIE

Then we have

Mollie PEARCE

DOI 25 Mollie.jpg

Mollie appeared in The Traitors. (I didn't watch the show so know nothing else about her)

The 3rd candidate to be revealed was:

Sir Steve Redgrave.

DOI 25 STEVE.jpg

Steve is well known as an Olympic rower who won gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2000. He has also won three Commonwealth Games gold medals and nine World Rowing Championships golds. He is the most successful male rower in Olympic history, and the only man to have won gold medals at five Olympic Games in an endurance sport.

The 4th Contestant is :

Sam Aston.

DOI 25 Sam.jpg

Sam plays Chesney Brown in Coronation Street. He's been in the show for a long time.

Apparently all the contestants start training next week for 2 hours a day.  Steve said they are banned from the ice until they start training.

There are a total of 12 contestants.

Quite a bit of publicity re DOI as it starts this Sunday 12th at 6.30pm.

From what I've heard, there's no replacement for Dame Sarah Storey, so just 11 contestant remaining.

Really looking forward to it.

@Mi-Amigo

I've checked multiple sites and can't find any music choices for Week  One.

I remember last year it was a real nightmare trying to find the songs!

Much worse than SCD, who issued their songs on the Wednesday.

So if anyone wants to look then feel free. 😂

PS, I remember the songs appeared in Digital Spy and Instagram for DOI.

The wikipedia entry got updated just before 5pm with the first 6 victims contestants: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dancing_on_Ice_series_17#Week_1_(12_January)

Just reading through who Sarah Storey would have been partnered with and it was Slyvain. So yeah, we know it was going to be him doing all the work which would have been a detriment to her efforts.

@sheepdog

Thanks for that. No idea Wikipedia was a weekly source of info for Dancing On Ice!

One thing I find weird (as it's a live show), why is it written as if it has already taken place?

For instance :

'Only half the celebrities PERFORMED this week' and...

'Couples are listed in the order they PERFORMED' 🤔

Still, that's just a niggle, I'll know where to look next week.

Of course we do know that of the 90 minute show, half of that will be taken up with adverts!!

Dancing On Ice Week 1

All females judges and presenters looked good.

Sam and Molly. (That's Not My Name )

A good first skate. Lovely tuck jump and solo spin Scored 27.00

Ferne and Brendyn ( Somewhere only we know)

Looked ok but the usual over lifts and not enough skating. Needs to skate out of hold more. Scored 26.5

Chelsee and Andy. ( Crazy In Love)

A bit of a let down after excellent opening. Very wobbly. Again too many lifts Scored 22

Anton and Annette (Beggin)

Bit of a surprise as he skated well particularly after his very nervous practice sessions. Good lifts.

Chris thinks he will be doing a headbanger! Scored 26

Michaela and Mark. (Let's Do It)

I knew these would score high as Holly and Stephen kept referring to her as a 'Legend!

That aside, she did actually skate very well. Excellent performance. Didn't rely on too many lifts. Scored 30.5

Chris and Vanessa. (You Make My Dreams)

Before he skated I took a dislike to him. Really c/o/c/k/y. and arrogant.

Pity none of this translated to his skating. Very untidy skate with limited skill. Scored 24.

Jayne and Chris skated at the end of the show. This is the last year they will skate as they have been together for 50 years.

The final 5 will skate next week. Apparently there will be no 'save me' skating.

The bottom two as voted for by the public will be out.

Ah January wouldn't be January without DOI and hey look, I've got a drawer full of interesting sharp objects 😎

So usually I'd praise the set design and colours but this year looks a little jaded. Nonetheless, it's still a high class set. Nice segue way from last years (already forgotten) winner Ryan Thomas doing the prize draw.

Have to say JT looked rather good tonight and big big wig for Moti! I was rather taken by Holly's forehead as I'm sure it didn't move.

Chesney and Molly: oh wasn't this better than expected. Good bar set for the others to match. Could be a fan favourite even if the Corrie fans are the bulk of his vote.

Ferne and Brendyn: She described herself as a "TV personality", well I understand the word "TV" but "personality" I don't. Well Essex girl kind says it all for me. OK for a first skate but like her "personality", found it bland. Saying that, like to see her out on her own more rather then Brendyn doing a Slyvain before I'm convinced.

Chelsee and Andy: And the award for most in-hold and pro-throwing routine goes to....all arm-o-graphy and slowed down to an almost stop at times. Poor. Also, is this really the same Chelsee Healy we saw in Strictly?

Anton and Annette: Woah, this was way better than I thought. Lots of potential but may border on safe rather than giving us the wow-factor. Work in progress for several weeks which I look forward to seeing.

Michaela and Mark: Was expecting the worst and got the best of the night. Dare I say it, the one to beat. Now lets see her do some stuff on her own.

Chris and Vanessa: @Cleoriff thats exactly what was said in our household about him as soon as he started his VT! Some good bits but Vanessa needs some serious work on him should he progress. Saying that, he was better than Chelsee.

Er, I seriously hope Steve Redgrave isn't Bez in disguise. Too many red flags saying it might be true.

So over the next week, expect a whole load of Social Media posting shenanigans for this weeks contestants.

Enjoyed the first DOI of 2025

My opinion

Sam and Molly.

A good first skate. Agreed with judges` score.

Ferne and Brendyn

Too many lifts, too much holding on, not enough skating. Overscored

Chelsee and Andy.

Poor performance, with too many lifts. Agreed with judges` score.

Anton and Annette

Good skate. Could go far - although early days. One of my favourite performances.

Michaela and Mark.

Excellent performance. My favourite of the night. Showed she can skate, Well deseved high score.

[OK I`m biased - I`ve met her 😀 ]

Chris and Vanessa.

Agree with @Cleoriff - arrogant and very untidy skate. Should have been scored lower .

For me, top two pairs were - Michaela and Mark, and Anton and Annette.

Worst two pairs were           - Chelsee and Andy; and Chris and Vanessa.

I forgot to mention in my post last night, that i'm rapidly going off Stephen Mulhern.

Normally I like him when he is the sole presenter of his own shows.

I also think his magic tricks are good.

However, he is far too childish on DOI. He tries to be funny when it isn't the time to be funny.

He has far too much to say, making the show all about him.

Not a popular observation I'm sure, but Philip Schofield was much better on this show and far more professional.

Though I expect Holly (back stabbing) Willoughby would not agree. 😂
