Another rubbish post.

Just thought I would add another rubbish2.jpg

Fence%20post.jpg

This place has gotten a whole lot worse lately, part's of this board are turning in to a social media forum full of non related rubbish & link's being posted just so users post counts go higher, carry on like this & it will be as bad as the Giff Gaff forum!

I know im a happy ex O2 customer, looking at the state of this forum it would certainly put me of ever rejoining.

If post counts were a large contributing factor then threads such as 'Wanty's Place' and the 'Virtual Lounge' would make a difference to who gets rewards wouldn't it ? Some find it pleasant to post their and some prefer not to.

Their are in my opinion sufficient boards to allow the primary function of the forum ,and then we have 'Off Topic' ,which its own banner and description which depicts what that area is for.

Ok some regular members don't want to read news tech stories. But also on the flip side if a person starts a Google search for some information they may have a hit to the forum and this helps them ,or even better they sign up and become an active member - maybe.

I see both sides of the debate.

Finding the equilibrium is the key.

So I will just add to this discussion. I am not at all technical but love to learn new things. I can help on certain threads but know my limitations.

I am more likely to be asking questions than attempting to answer them Rolleys

I do tend to hang around Off Topic but if I start a thread it is usually about medical innovations or developments.

It's rare for me to sit on the fence, though I am between a rock and a hard place with this one....

I look at it this way.....if I don't want to participate in a thread or topic. I just don't bother getting involved in it.

One key issue is that the written word can so easily be read in a different way to that intended. Likewise someone reading a post may be in a different or bad place when reading it and thus it may come across other than intended. Finally one persons humour may be another's stress.

This is one of the hard challenges of my job Nick and you hit the nail on the head. Everyone here is very confident, strong-willed and sure of their views and abilities, which is wonderful. We are however all very different indeed and its hard to please everyone in all aspects of the community; Nigh on impossible in fact. We all need to be adaptable to each other. This what being in a community is all about slight_smile

Its not just this though that makes our job a healthy challenge, its also how brand new members are welcomed/introduced to the community, which adds a whole new level to how comments/threads/tone can be perceived, especially when lots of you are very close friends to begin with.

The community team and I don't ever want anyone to feel that just because they are the way they are (unless they are abusive of course), they cannot get involved on this community. I'm sure you would all agree with this.

Fancy writing a great device review or O2 forum guide? Send me a message!

• New to the community? This is how you get help.

Hi guys,
Thank you for raising your concerns and giving views and feedback. As Toby mentioned were are looking into
making the guidelines a bit more specific and adding some more information in the hopes that it will make things clearer, and hoping also that it can be referred to more easily when thinking of e.g. what kind of content to post or not to post, in which section etc. As for the Rewards and other points mentioned, let us look into those to see what we can do. I see we have some interesting ideas here already.

We will look at all your comments when thinking of future developments and the guidelines - I'll post more info on that soon so everyone is aware, so look out for that. slight_smile If you have further questions feel free to send me a PM.

My take on rewards (considering the fact that some think/perceive post count is attributed to it) is to make it clear that Off Topic posts do not count.
The idea of the rewards system was to thank members for helping other customers with help and guidance where needed.
Off topic is a place for chit chat, news etc but may be perceived as a place to increase presence and therefore, rewards.
Any rewards should be presented based on actual helpful and accurate answers given on the main help sections of the boards.
Demerits should be applied for blatantly incorrect or copied answers (which would reduce this activity) and awarded solutions should promote more user points for the month.
Any reward system is a) Good for the community and b) Bad for the community - the key is how it is managed wink
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
Please select the post that helped you best and mark as the solution. This helps other members in resolving their issues faster. Thank you.

Possibly as the Rewards System has had a good run - maybe we could suggest something to 100% replace it.

Spot prizes as an example.

I agree that completely incorrect answers (which I do sometimes as I read the question wrong) and answers which are copied word for word from links are wrong and should be negative points towards the rewards system.

Hopefully the O2 team can find a solution to replace the current rewards system.  Some good ideas have been floating round by different members.

It's not the accidental ones so much Gemz but there are many blatant ones out there for a number of reasons which don't get addressed......
We've all made mistakes and read a question wrong from time to time 😞
