o2 selling on numbers again??

Anonymous
Not applicable

it would appear o2 have been selling on numbers again. Within 24hrs of renewing a contract with them i recieved 6junk texts about debt/PPI etc and have been gettting one or two per day since.

Of course o2 completely deny it but each message is headed with the account holders name (which is a different family member and name to mine) and they are the only people that would be aware of this. I dont have the interent of my phone so that isnt an issue.

Many others have this problem and managed to solve it? I want an apology from o2 and some kind of compensation

Wish people would stop with all the I wants and compensation speeches.

Ignore them they'll stop eventually. Or indeed opt out of the plan. You agreed for them to use your details as they felt fit. So really it's not O2s fault my friend you'll recieve no apology or compensation.

Sorry for the hard truths

Ok I do realise a lot as I have some experience with these companies a lot of them only continue to spam mobile with messages once they are confirmed they're live accounts.

These messages cost money to spam its not good business practise to spend money on somthing that wouldn't pay off. So unless you've replied stop or clicked on a link to one of these products they will stop as your not seen as a live account.

Besides as for defending O2 they sell data do what? You agreed to the thing haha. Complain to whoever you want you'll recieve nothing my friend.

I doubt eBay would Handel this it's against their T&Cs to sell information on there.

I am bored of people who can't be bothered to read T&Cs then whine afterwards.

So I'm more than happy to inform you were your points are flawed. However I am very interested to know where they have categorically denied selling your details? Do you have proof? If not you have no defence sorry to say:(

I've had the very same thing and am currently waiting for a response from the complaints department. I've also written to the ICO, OFCOM and Watchdog. I have also begun speaking to the companies that have been sending the spam email to find the source of their data.

By the way for those appearing to be on O2's side with this (baffling) I am well aware of the legalities surrounding selling and sharing data. I have also read these terms & conditions which actually state sharing data "to third parties from whom you have chosen to receive marketing information".

O2 also completely deny sharing data. So, have they been hacked and had data stolen. Or are they simply selling data for profit? Either way, it's not good is it!?

I'm not really interested in a conversation with those backing up O2's fine print. I'm not interested in doing business with a company that uses outdated and unethical tactics. The guidelines regarding ECRM campaigns have significantly tightened over the years. You must opt-in specifically to receive such marketing.

In regards to 'ignoring it' and 'it will go away'. What you don't realise is the companies that hire/purchase such databases don't just use it once, they continue to use it until they get a significant amount of complaints. They will often then recycle this data and sell it on to more companies. The origin of this data is also unknown and could well be being sold on eBay (yes it happens a lot).

Regards,
Chris

Could I get an invite to your next dinner party? You sound like a absolute bundle of fun!

Seriously, I wish you well with your campaign. Personally, life's too short to be that bothered by it.

2 a new cross network initiative.... if u get a SPAM text.... DO NOT reply STOP.

There is a lot of BS being spouted in this thread.

As per my other post, my wife's mobile is being bombarded with text messages from PPI and loan companies - 2 or 3 a day is the norm. Quite strange really considering our family all have O2 numbers and she is the only one to be getting these texts.

Now before anyone says anything about agreeing to O2's T&C's, no such O2 agreement was presented for this particular phone or SIM card. She isn't as 'tech savvy' as many and always asks before agreeing to anything. She would never leave her number on an Internet site or anywhere else. Her mobile number is known only by trusted family members and by O2.

TPS doesn't stop text messages to mobile numbers, just calls and it's a voluntary scheme, not the law of the land.

So where are these companies getting her mobile number from?

Well there is only one source that is possible - namely O2.

As I put in my other thread, unless these texts stop we shall all be throwing O2 into the bin and going elsewhere.

Someone within O2 has leaked her number - there's no question about it.

They don't need to know the number, these are sent out to blocks of numbers by computers.

Forward them as advised in your other thread to 7726.

Why don't you read my original post rather than replying with the same thing each time?
