Just a few questions about upgrading tomorrow to the iPhone 4. I am currently on a Pay Monthly tariff with o2 and want to upgrade tomorrow to the new iPhone.
From the way I see it, I can go into the o2 shop tomorrow, pay off the rest of my existing bill (using the Early Upgrade
Offer), and start a new contract. Is this correct?
Can I also keep my existing number? Do I need to do anything before going into the shop tomorrow?

Of course I realise that you pay for the new contract - I am happy to pay £35 plus the broadband of £10 for 24 months.
The phone alone - O2 would get £840 for!
I aint gonna pay £119 for a phone - never have, never will.
The point I was making was that everyone should be aware - your earlier post said "You should be able to just pay the sum for your existing contract and then get a new contract" but that is not the end of it, there is a cost for the phone unless you pay £60 a month on a 24 month contract".
Obviously people can pay what they want. I am just mentioning this for anyone who,like me and others I know, were not aware of the handset cost for UPGRADE.

Fair enough, I just thought it was clear from the tariff chart, how much a new contract would cost . Buying out your existing contract and setting up a new one are two seperate things.
I realise o2 are making a killing here - but what can you do if you want the phone?!

I understand that people find the wording of the terms of the upgrade confusing however if customers like myself who have paid their contract for nearly 18 months and are now due and upgrade have to pay the price of the handset then why should people who are buying out their contract feel they are entitled to a new phone for free?
At the end of the day i've had an adverage monthly bill of £78 and over 17 months i've spent in the region of £1326.00, so why should someone that, at the end of the day will end up paying less to O2 as they are buying out their tariff at £20 per month for the exsisting months, be entitled to a free phone when i'm not

It is the same as to whether I go to Tescos or Shell for my petrol.
I actually go to Tesco, spend £100+ a month and get my clubcard points and cheaper fuel. I know how much I am paying and I have a choice. The person who goes to Shell and pays more with no clubcard points also makes a choice.
I do the same with a mobile phone. I sign up for 24 months at the price of £35 a month. If someone else pays more then that is THEIR choice.
If a supplier, whether it is O2 or Shell make an offer to which I am entitled then what is the problem - unless someone else thinks they have been paying too much?
On that argument if Shell (unlikely though it is) reduce their pump price to 5p a litre lower than Tesco then I must drive straight past and keep going to Tesco!

the simple fact is that the emails and publicity from O2 is misleading, they are not alone, all companies do it, it does not make it right whether you pay £1 a month or £100 a month.
I merely alerted others who may, like myself (and others I know)not have been aware. CAVEAT EMPTOR (a legal term for "let the buyer beware").

I have spoken to an 02 store, they said you can do the early upgrade offer instore. All they will do is make a phone call and you will have to pay off your outstanding contract over the phone, then they can get on with the buisness of sorting your new contract in store.

At the end of the day O2 have offered customers a chance to buy out their exsisting contract and upgrade to a new phone. As per their site all new and upgrading customers get the same deal so if you pay your contract up early to upgrade then you are treated the same as everyone else.

Here's the offer:
Instead of paying off your remaining contract in full, simply pay a one-off charge equal to £20 for each full month left on your contract. This reduced cost offer cannot be combined with any early upgrade eligibility you may have as part of O2 Priority List.
Simply enter your contract renewal date below and we'll estimate how much your early upgrade charge will be.
If you don't already know your contract renewal date you can find out by texting DATE to 21302 or iPhone customers can find this out by using the MyO2 iPhone App.
What happens next?
As a Pay Monthly customer you can pay for your Early Upgrade Charge with a Debit or Credit card, Businesses will be able to add this charge to their O2 bill.
You can get money for your old phone by trading it in with O2 Recycle.
