Will The New O2 Data Limited Tariffs Make You Consider Leavi

Someone started a poll to question whether people think that data limitation/capping is fair.
I think that's the wrong question to ask. I agree, that if a small percentage of users are abusing the unlimited data option and reducing service for others, then yes, something does need to be done.

O2 say that 97% of its customers currently use less than the 500mb limit but does this include all of their customers or just smart phone/iphone users.

With the launch of the original iPhone, O2 had the market. If you wanted an iphone you had to go with O2. I for one did switch to O2 for this very reason. but the market is now competetive and people are no longer loyal to a brand, they want the best deal.

With technology moving on as quickly as it is, data usage on mobile devices is only going to increase.
We'll be expecting:
Better Apps = More MB
HD Content = More MB
Video/Audo Streaming = More MB
Live TV = More MB
More Email Attachments = More MB
Better Quality Photos (5 Mega Pixels) = More MB
Sat Nav Traffic information = More MB
Multitasking = More MB
Video Conferencing (Apples 'FaceTime') = More MB
The list goes on.

Some people have already checked their current usage and feel that they won't be affected but have they considered all of the above?

Surely, with these new Tarriffs O2 are offering 'Less for More', when the consumer market is always wanting 'More for Less'

The key question that O2 will need to be looking for is:

"Will the new O2 Data limited tariff's make you consider leaving O2?"

Absolutely will be considering leaving.
The "unlimited" data plan main selling point for me at least, was there for peace of mind that I would never receive any unexpected charges.
I for one believe the costs for these smartphone tariffs are already very high.
So with a price increase, introducing a data cap, the MMS changes, poor 3g coverage, and most importantly, they have lost the exclusivity of the iPhone...
Its a dream come true for O2's competitors.
Bye O2!

Good luck with the move, let us know what other mobile networks you find offering unlimited internet with no FUP (clue: there are none)

ok look you guys must be crazy.... the o2 website say that 750 meg will be used with just 1.5 hours on the BBC iplayer. so basically with these new rules you will be able to watch 3/4 of ONE EPISODE of top gear on the iplayer & ALL YOUR DATA FOR THE MONTH will be gone. so no email, no apps, no youtube, no skype, no google maps, NO NOTHING FOR THE REST OF THE MONTH. so whats the point in even having an iphone. 30 quid a month on a 400 quid phone to be sent back to the stone ages & not be able to use any of its features.

Really?
5.11. In addition to our standard terms and conditions, all usage must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:
a) In, or connected to, any other device including modems, dongles or any other way to connect to a PC;
b) fraudulently;
c) in such a way that adversely impacts the service to other giffgaff customers.
d) goodybags which include unlimited data browsing, allow continuous streaming of audio/video content.
If giffgaff reasonably suspects you are not acting in accordance with this clause, giffgaff reserves the right to impose standard browsing charges, impose network protection controls which may reduce your speed of transmission, remove the goodybag from your account or disconnect your tariff at any time, having attempted to contact you first.

Reading between the lines, they'll throttle / charge you if you use it excessively. Unlike other networks, they're not even being transparent about what they consider to be 'excessive' http://giffgaff.com/boiler-plate/terms#Goodybags

One episode on a computer, yes, but mobile-formatted content is of a lower quality.

O2 won't stop you from continuing to use data, you will just have to decide if watching Top Gear is so important to your life and emotional wellbeing that it's worth paying £5 for, or if you can wait until you get home.

yeah of course o2 wont stop you using it. becasue they will be rubbing their hands together when they charge you 2 quid for every 5 meg over your 500meg limit.

thats what this is all about. 02 getting more money out of people who actually use all of the ihpones features. & whats the point in saying " just watch it when you get home?"

why dont you just not have a mobile phone at all & make calls when you get home if it that easy????

or all go back to using green screen nokia 702's becasue we have computers at home???? what a stupid thing to say. if technology companies put the technology out there for us then they need to provide the service for us to fully utilise its features.... otherwise whats the point?? just use yoghurt pots with long string on them....much cheaper.
