Why not show that a £100 deposit is required BEFORE I waste

I spent a good twenty mintues browsing o2's details about USB dongles for internet and found one at £15 a month quite reasonable. So I filled in all my details, had specified I was after 2 months to the rather helpful o2 live chat thing, yet just before I got to submit my order, all of a sudden I need to pay a £100 deposit, which is refundable after 3 months payment. I understand the deposit but 1. Why not mention it before I spend time filling everything in, and 2. I only wanted the dongle for 2 months in the first place?

I knew there was a catch 😞

I had to pay a £100 deposit for a phone contract with O2.

It should be paid back to me at the end of next month. But I've since done an early upgrade to the iPhone 4, and when I phoned customer services to enquire about what would happen to my deposit, lo and behold they had no record of it ever being paid!

I've got the bank statement and receipt from O2 to prove that I paid it, and I have a very good friend in the shape of a solicitor, so I'll get the money back from them.

It is annoying though.

O2 - if you're reading this, just pay me the money you owe me!!!!!

Its prudent that you saved the proof and so only right that o2 pay the deposit back as agreed.

As for deposits.

Its possible your credit rating was border line.

Bear in mind the subsidy the network is giving on the handset so they obviously want to recoup it.

Think how you would have felt if the salesperson simply declined you.

If a deposit is required for dongle taffif's then it should be included in the early stages of applying for one. The dongles are not cheap therefore the network will want to be confident of providing you with the hardware.

I would suggest you contact o2 directly as you will not receive any resolution on this forum from o2.

For the record - I knew that my credit rating wasn't the best, so I was happy to pay the deposit. I'm just not happy that they don't want to give it back without a fight!

A deposit is only necessary if you don't have a good enough credit score. They can't do a credit check until they have your details, so there is no way you can be told about it before you enter them.

Not cheap? You can get an O2 dongle on PAYG for approx £20-25 in Tesco/Asda?!?!

If anything, the credit check for a dongle should be LESS strict.
