I am debating whether to get a Samsung VR but I am unsure whether it is worth the money or just an expensive toy. What are your thoughts?

Well yes, it is an expensive toy, but most gadgets are tbh, certainly no worse than a 100 quid pencil for ipad or a 119 quid strap for a watch.
Personally I thought it was great and it cost me a damn sight more than the current retail prices.

I've tried the HTC Vive at work and pretty incredible. Blew me away. It is a top piece of kit no question. Not tried Samsung.

Total immersion sound and vision is the only way to truly experience the VR world. Using HTC Vive you move around in an environment. There is the other VR world which is 360 where the camera / view is a fixed position and you can look around you or appear to be in a story. I believe SKY will be using the latter for F1 from the pits. I know BBC developing.

Like a quality phone or laptop I would aim high re specs as will be outdated fast. The cost no more than a good flat screen TV

Well HTC vive vs gear vr is a non contest really.
One costs a fortune and offers little upgradability, the other costs a fraction and is only limited by the phone inside it.
Oculus done VERY well with gear vr

Hi @viridis - thanks for the heads up - I haven't got the s7 yet but I'll definitely have a look on CPW. I'm hoping to upgrade next month so hopefully the offer will still be on.

Apart from the games, does it allow you to do anything else? E.g. Video calls?
