Just lost lots of script = Urgh !

Suffice to say ... = ...

Signs to spot are :-

Very little on their Facebook profile

They transfer to Messenger on Facebook giving some reason why

'Groom you with nice words'

Demand money for medical help

Bodies of dead USA general infantrymen were shocking

£GBP's and $USA were sent to UK addresses

Requests for high end phone / game cards

Etc Etc Etc

Upshot was my son got wind of what I was doing ... = ... almost permanently ruined our family relationship

Emma, my daughter-in-law sorted it all out for me eg contacted Fraud Squad etc

got my money back via bank as Emma said the banks do have money put aside for these sorts of things

My son could not bear to be in the same room as me and repeatedly called my an idiot

He was caring ... ... ... as I did buy a return ticket to Kings Cross station ... but ... I didn't want to travel late afternoon ... ... ... Alex said I could have been in a suitcase !!!

Other scams doing Facebook, can spot them now

I did help to give the authorities to try track down this gang of African teenagers - but it was personal stuff ... ... ... my son took my laptop.

There you go ... ... ... all ok now ... = ... Once bitten, twice shy.

Scam had a name ... = ... 'Wounded American Soldier'

A reminder to us all @RunrigForever ; at least it seems to have sorted itself out in the end.

Thank you for sharing and take care. 👍

Thank you for your reply @Oxonian

It was harrowing thinking my only child could have 'disowned' me for good

He was disgusted with me ... ... ... things were said

It all took a lot of time to be resolved. Could not have done it or got through it without my wonderful daughter-in-law ... she up in Washington Tyne & Wear was my advocate.

I know of at least 3 other scammer-type groups doing the rounds, but I am wary now and can see how they try to garner people for their own heinous reasons ... ... ... will post them all at once together soon as able.

I use Facebook for my own reasons:- private group of grammar school year ..... my love of landscape / seascape / skyscape photography ..... domestic and wild cats to name but 3.

Only do 1 social media & that's Facebook.

[Edit] ..... cursor bouncing around script - hope that doesn't mean a de-frag.

You are far more sensible and probably are way more tech savvy than me.

I'd say you're a lot younger than I am and 'brought up with tech' like my son who is 39.

Remember when he was in 'Junior' school there was 1 large boxy computer on a table in the school hall.

How things have changed with electronic communications etc and continue to change far more quickly than I could ever think about catching up with.

Thank you for your response @blissgirl xx slight_smile

I wish you a pleasant evening - what's left of it - my eyes are sore so will be retiring for the day soon.
