O2 Forcing All Customers onto the New Price Rises

O2 has confirmed to ISPreview that they’re also emailing existing mobile customers to forcibly move them to the new pricing policy, albeit with a right to exit their contract as a result. This is as opposed to the usual approach, where such changes only occur for new customers or via natural re-contracting at the end of a contract term. We don’t think VMO2 are going to win too many adoring fans with this one

 

Personally I hope for a mass exodus

I’m confused - is the new monthly increase in addition to the regular yearly price rise or instead of it?

It replaces it as per OFCOM rules, so it has moved from CPI/RIP+3.9% to a pounds and pence model. @30062020

Ok, so the £1.80 extra a month  I’ll be paying is instead of paying the CPI/RIP+3.9% increase? That would actually work out better for me. I take it that’s not the case for everyone then?

So does this mean I can cancel my airtime part of my contract without early termination charges but allowing me to keep the device pay monthly option?

Yes, only if you have had the email from o2, which if you had the following would have been in there 

 

You can cancel your contract any time in the next 30 days by calling 202, free from your O2 phone, or on 0344 809 0202. If there’s an outstanding amount left on your device plan, this will still need to be paid off, either by continuing with the installments already set up, or you can opt to pay it off in full.

Nope. I'm on an £8 SIM only via USwitch. The rise for me works out at just under 23%. Thankfully my 12 month contract expires Mid March.

We shall see what we shall see then

Nope not for everyone sadly, some will say the old system wasn't either, for me it makes no difference as my o2open discount will still be worth 25% so but for others as I say its a bigger hit...

I had the email. I am very eager to leave o2 due to poor signal everywhere and bad customer services. The thing is I got my phone and contract from a third party and my monthly fee is bundled together rather than separate for airtime and handset, so I'm not sure if I would be allowed to leave under there exit terms in the email. I understand you can leave and obviously continue to just pay off any handset cost (which i have a year of) but as mine is bundled would it be a No, anyone know or have any experience of this yet ?
