https://www.mirror.co.uk/tech/o2-announces-big-changes-phone-12912141

I saw a press release this morning that sang the praises of 2 O2 initiatives - one about O2 Family changes, the other that O2 phones will now all be sold unlocked.

As I recall, the support fort 4G Volte or WiFi calling was (is?) restricted to certain phones on certain O2 firmware.

So is the move away from locking phones to O2 going to improve O2's ability to provide the type of calling functionality that was people's main reason for using TuGo (and possibly latterly, O2 Ask)?

Heaven knows where I got that flash of inspiration from, @Cleoriff wink

Seriously, it does look as if O2 is dumping features from Ask that may now be supported using the phone's native capabilities, at last: unimpeded by O2's own branded firmware or whatever it's called. 👍

Maybe they are removing the calling and messaging because new phones will be sold unlocked but yes, wifi calling will be available for all new flagship phones....just as they are now!

However....

  • Customers with older phones will still be up the creek with no paddle and a hole in the canoe just for good measure!
  • what use will the Ask app be. I've said before they may as well withdraw it and shove it in the same bin as TU and World Chat

I don't understand the fuss over 4g calling tbh ?
Wifi calling I can understand but not 4g.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
