Will O2 PAYG follow or is this the next stage in phasing out their own offering?

https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2024/05/giffgaff-uk-set-to-start-rolling-out-4g-calling-and-wi...

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

@Enlli

The rumour is end of 2024 for o2 PAYG to get 4G Calling and Wifi Calling... that is if VMo2 haven't migrated all their PAYG customers to GiffGaff and killed off there own offerings...

The accounts of Giffgaff Limited as seen on the Companies House website make it clear that Giffgaff is a subsidiary of O2, rather than an arm's length MVNO :-

As such, moving all PAYG customers to Giffgaff might be seen as simplifying matters. The fact that it is a subsidiary also makes it more straightforward to move customers' credit balances etc with them. 👍

O2 have been gradually moving their PAYG business model towards giffgaff for the past 2 years at least (probably before that, but it wasn't as visible as it is now).

Also, it's giffgaff, not Giffgaff or GifGaf or any other variation of it.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

I suppose that O2 cannot be too close to ending PAYG as they are still letting new customers sign-up. Something akin to a "stop-sell" will presumably come first, with existing customers being moved across as Phase II of the project.

Interesting news @Enlli. The probable end of O2 PAYG as we know it?

Will they announce it or will it just happen (as has occurred frequently before?!)

In a similar vein, Vodafone has never been spelt Vodaphone 😁

It might be like moving customers to the new billing system @Cleoriff ; it will just begin to happen in what might turn out to be a fraught long-term project.

Of course, it could be a three-phase or even a four-phase project, with Classic PAYG, Rolling Plans, Big Bundle and new customers being dealt with sequential tranches ?
