What on earth is going on with O2? I have been trying to get my old number transferred to my new O2 SIM for a week now! And all I get when I call them is the same questions and told it takes 24 hours! When I finally had enough of the same ole same ole they said they would call me to resolve things ... Another lie! So I called again and stayed on the phone for an hour while they changed my number and hey presto another lie. All I want is my number changed! I'm waiting for a hospital phone appt but won't get it because of seem to find things that they claim to be so easy darn difficult! Is it just me?

No it's not just you.
When you say old number is that on O2 and just needs migrating, which should be easy.
Otherwise is the number from another network? (Porting)
Might be an idea to go through the social media teams
